Fort Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Sri Lanka’s main attractions. The construction has an ancient and interesting history.
It is not possible to find out the exact date of construction of the fortification walls and towers. It is believed that the first fortress was built by the Arabs 2000 years ago, then in 1588 the Portuguese rebuilt it, who arrived on the island in search of new trade opportunities, in the 17th century the Dutch forced them to declare Sri Lanka their colony. Panormo is a miniature village located just 22 km from Rethymno and 55 km from Heraklion, on the picturesque coast of the Cretan Sea. Unlike most Greek resorts, which are a long strip of the same type of hotels, between which are souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and other necessary elements of tourist infrastructure, Panormo is a “natural” organism. In attractive bleached houses, there is already not the first generation of colorful residents who will never change the measured way of life for the bustle of megacities.
